Sweet and delightful, that’s what this girl is like at 3 months. Check out her super long and curly lashes. She’s a flirt too. She will whip those lashes while giving you a prolonged blink like a little princess. I’m smitten!

1 year olds are so much fun. To be around and photograph. Insatiable curiosity. Baldness and no fear. Sense of adventure. That’s this little man I met last week. It was such a pleasure meeting him and his parents. He’s a joy! I got lost in his deep chocolate brown eyes. Thanks for all the fun, K!

More of our delicious “Sweet Frames” display from client’s home.  Remember this little guy?
See the framed image hanging on the wall to the left of his name? This is an example of how a birth announcement design can be enlarged and printed as a square Wall Portrait and framed with a coordinating frame.  Afterall, we spend so much time planning and decorating the nursery, adding a custom personalized wall art is just a cherry on top!

Recently, I followed a link list posted on another mom’s blog where everyone shared photographs of their living rooms. Many moms mentioned they regretted not having any updated portraits of their children displayed in their home. Even though most moms do take lots pictures of their children,  the digital images stay mostly… digital.  Even random printed photographs seem to be collected in boxes. Busy life gets in a way of displaying updated portraits on walls. I am one of those moms as well. I have a bin of mismatched frames, a shelf of half-empty albums, and computer folders full of digital images. Are you like that too?

As a mom, it makes me so happy to see my child’s adorable face up close on the wall every time I walk by.  So did make it a priority to have updated portraits taken of our daughter.  It’s an amazing feeling of pride, joy, love and a bit of nostalgia to see your child change from a baby to a child and then to a little girl or boy.  As a portrait photographer, I want to bring that happiness to other parents. I realized, based on my own example and from other moms, that the best way to ensure they can enjoy their beautiful portraits is to provide them “display-ready.” Make it easy for parents to hang them on walls, place on desks, mantels, shelves.

So we hunted down some cool, unique, and classic frames. Researched other display options. We are happy to announce that starting in 2010, all Wall Portraits and Story Boards from Funky Monkey Photography will be  framed for your convenience and ease of display.

We just received brand new corner samples so you can see and feel the different styles of frames at our studio. I especially love the colorful whimsical “Sweet Frames” for children’s rooms and nurseries. We can frame not only a single portrait, but also a set of images into a “Story Frame” or even frame an enlarged birth announcement.

Here is a Chocolate Sweet Frame with Baby Boy wavy inlet.

and more choices for Sweet Frames and inlets”

How fun are those frames? I love them. I will take a few more of our studio samples to show you.
We offer lots of other frames to fit your specific home decor.

We chose to offer this value-added service:

  • To help our clients enjoy their beautiful portraits hung on their walls.  We know the best way to do it is to provide the portraits display-ready. Not only will clients love seeing them in their home, their guests will sure be impressed as well.
  • Provide our clients the Total Custom Experience.“  From consultation to creating display-ready custom portraits. Hassle-free for our clients.
  • To provide archival quality heirloom portraits our clients and their children can enjoy for years to come.

Welcome, Baby “D”!

January 19, 2010

Welcome to this world. I was glad to photograph baby “D” after just a couple of days of being home from the hospital.
He’s only a few days old but already a character! He likes to be swaddled, but just so, with at least one of his hands being free. He’s really alert and very smart deep eyes. His trademark is a head full of thick, dark hair. What a cute boy! Thank so much to his parents for sharing your cutie pie with me for these few hours. It was my pleasure!

Paul’s in the hospital today and is a bit down. . . he got a real kick out of seeing his face on the web. Thanks for brightening his day!!

One of my favorite little girls to photograph since before her birth has just become a big sister. Here she is last fall with her family eagerly awaiting her little live-in playmate.

Just look at how proud she is to have this big responsibility!
Thanks so much, L & B, for sharing your precious girls with me.

This blanket was knitted by some one close to her in family, so it’s very special. I just happened to have a matching pair of knitted diaper covers. Love the colors.

She was a holiday baby. Welcome to the world, T!

Not My Child Monday

December 7, 2009

Another Monday. This is the busiest 2 weeks of our photography business so I’ll make it short and sweet so I can get back to editing images ASAP.

It was NOT our 4 year old daughter who was sitting down in a cafeteria booth and kicking her feet. “Thud, thud, thud” every time her feet kicked the bottom of the booth. Finally, her mommy asked “What are you doing?“.  “Mommy, my feets are having a party!” she exclaimed with a huge grin on her face.

Today I remember my Grandmother Zofia. Or “Babcia Zosia” as I would call her as a child growing up in Poland. She spent 83 years with us and was very loved. I know she loved me very much too. She’s always been there for me as my biggest supporter. I will miss her.

Today is her funeral in Poland, which I am unable to attend. So instead, I created a small visual tribute to her and wrote the last letter with words I wish she could hear.

Funky Monkey Photography is closed today.

#4 Not my child Monday

November 30, 2009

This didn’t happen to us. It was someone else’s almost-4 year old daughter. NOT my child. Anyway. The girl sits down at her table with her arms crossed, head down, chin forward and a pouty face. “Daddy, I’m NOT ha-ppy,” she says. Daddy asks why. “Maybe, maybe, maybe gummy bears will make me ha-ppy,” she replies with a very whinny voice and looks up to see if it worked.
Nice trick!

I don’t know about you, but I gave up finding matching socks years ago. I tend to buy all the same kind for all of us. But my daughter’s sock drawer is always full of colors and patters from the socks grandma buys. Grandma always manages to match her socks, apparently. So this morning, I was lucky to find 2 clean socks in a similar shape and shade, phew! It was NOT my daughter who shook her head and said with a disapproval: “No no no, not these socks, they are not the same socks. They need to be the same, like at grandma’s house.”

Holiday traditions

November 28, 2009

I found it fascinating to find out about the holiday family traditions, how everyone celebrates their holidays differently yet in the same spirit. Having grown up in another country, it’s even more interesting to find out all the US traditions I didn’t experience as a child. It’s also fun introducing new ones in our family. For example, St. Nicholas Day, December 6th, is something my husband hasn’t heard about until he met me. Yet when I was a child in Poland, St. Nick came every year and left us a little gift under or next to our pillow, year after year. St. Nicholas is definitely making a special stop at our house next weekend…

One tradition we started as a family when our daughter was very little, is admiring beautiful Christmas lights displays put up in a couple of local parks. The displays are elaborate, with human-size and larger ornament shapes and holiday characters.  Every year we drive through a lit up park a cold, snowy night, and enjoy the lit up animals and other shapes from inside a warm, cozy car. Following up with a cup of hot cocoa at home. This year our daughter is almost 4 years old and every time we pass lights, she calls out “Christmas.” I hope she’s already remembering past years’ traditions.

The Olbrich Garders in Monona has a pretty cool model train show with Christmas lights and a running train. I know our daughter loved it last year, and this year she will probably be even more into it. She kept running in circles following the train. She wasn’t the only one!

As a family we decided to exchange gifts on Christmas Eve, knowing that Santa likes to stop by on Christmas Day morning. Santa always leaves gifts in a giant red Santa’s bag with her name embroidered on it. They are normally already with batteries and put together. How cool is that? Santa is awesome.

Would you like to share a local Madison area holiday tradition?

Our family tradition is to let our sons go individually shopping with Grandma at the dollar store. They each get to spend one dollar per person and then they take the gifts they purchase and head to Grandma’s house for a secret wrapping get together. We look forward to our orange plastic toilet scrubbers and junky figurines every year. :)

More explanation soon… For now just enjoy the images from a recent newborn session with an adorable boy with gorgeous hair and coolest room. What a creative airplane nursury!

Last weekend we had so much fun meeting all the parents and kids at the Madison Kids Expo 2009. We wanted to thank everyone who came out to the expo and stopped by our booth!

Thanks to Oompa Toys and the Middleton Oompa store manager, we had some pretty cool toys to play with. The most popular was the train table, which really was a whole city with lots of fun wooden structures, vehicles and people.  Glad we were able to provide a little bit of fun for the little ones.

We had lots of people enter in our raffle for over $1,000 in prizes. We wish everyone could win but we had to draw 3 names for our Gift Certificates:

$500 Gift Certificate – Holly Pacubas

$300 Gift Certificate – Erin Thornley

$200 Gift Certificate – Jess Bohrer

To the winners – Congratulations! Please email us with your mailing address.  We are very excited to work with you! Winners must be willing to travel to our Madison studio to redeem Gift Certificates. Not redeemable for cash. Please contact us for details.

To everyone who entered – thank you and we’ll be sending you a special Kids Expo Only offer as well soon!

NOT my child Monday

November 23, 2009

It’s that time again, for the “NOT my child Monday”, an idea from a fellow blogger.

My almost-4-year-old daughter is finally dancing at the ballet classes, yay! She’s loving it. Before each class, some children waiting play in a toy corner and some hang out with their parents scattered around the large lobby. While waiting for our last class, some child, definitely NOT my child, yelled from the toy corner across the entire lobby for everyone to hear, “Mommy, I FARTED! Hee hee hee.” Phew, so glad that wasn’t my kid. I wouldn’t want to be known as THAT mom. Afterall, I’m supposed to be the dance studio photographer next weekend.

Our little princess goes to swimming classes too. From time to time we get an email that classes were canceled and pool closed because a child had an “accident in the pool.” We got such an email last week and had to explain to her why the classes were called off, much to her disappointment. Next day, during make up classes, it was definitely NOT my child who told another little girl in the class, while pointing a finger to her, “Now remember, NO POOP today!” Loud enough for her mommy to hear. Aaaaaah.

A while back we went to the Great Dane Pub by the Capitol. They had a fun party for kids with face painting, balloons, and more activities. Apparently, some kids (NOT mine) must have thought the whole building was a fun house. “What’s that red pully thingy on the wall? Hmmm, I wonder what happens when I pull this handle.” must have went through some child’s mind, because next thing we know, a very LOUD, piercing sound went off with blinking lights throughout the building. Everyone’s heads turned to the fire alarm and the culprit that started it, who hung her head in shame and ran crying in tears to her parents.  We were just waiting for a fire truck to show up. And a hefty bill from the fire department. After very long 5 minutes that seemed like forever, a manager showed up with a special key and disabled the alarm.  Phew!!!!!

Just 2 years ago, I had the privilege of photographing baby “B” when she was still in mommy’s belly and then again when she first came into this world. Now, I got to witness her being a big sister for the first time.

Here is B 2 ynears ago as a brand new baby:

Look who just became a big brother. You may have seen him on our website and blog before because he’s one of my favorite little models.  Super handsome, adorable, imaginative, smart and a mellow personality. Now he’s got a new baby sister to look after. Who, by the way, is an ubber-cutie herself. She loves to be snuggled up and very warm. Sleeping on mommy is her favorite. Welcome to the world, little J!
